I personally think Zeiss are doing a pretty damn good job. Is the lens worth the price tag? You be the judge…. The throw is looong (very cinema like) and going from 50cm to 10metres makes a challenge for even the steadiest of hands. I missed my followfocus and baseplate for the focus shift shots. One thing though I noticed is that I enjoy the microcontrast of the lens… and the fact that it is sharp across the frame all the way to 1.4. The lens is damn amazing, but I think this will really show once we into the 4K cameras this year. So in no way is this a scientific test though I tried to cover the basic moves where possible (tilt, pan, focus shift, near and far). Just tried to find and pick up shots I found pleasant to look at. I didn't think story or storyboard into this video. So what was mainly a peaceful trip to go hiking in the 'fjell' took a turn towards testing out this promised lens. I smiled, thought for a few secs and said… ok, sure. I said yes, just out of curiousity.Īs I was paying for the Gitzo he joked wether I wanted that Otus as well…. The salesman looked surprised and said that they had one out back… ZE version… and if I wanted to see it. So I was actually going to Norway for a bit of R&R, but luck would have it that I went to the local camera store to pick up a Gitzo tripod for my trip, and randomly asked how their Zeiss Otus 55 delivery times looked like.
